About Me

Hello! My name is Brenda Vanek, and I am a mentor for Beyond Education. I am a graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelors in Mathematics. I have been teaching and tutoring for 27 years and have taught most math from Algebra 1 on up. Currently, I am a high school math teacher in San Antonio and am teaching AB Calculus, BC Calculus, and Multivariable Calculus. When I am not teaching, you can find me cooking and spending time with my friends and family.

When looking back on my educational journey, I have learned many things that have helped me gain better insight into myself as a learner and mentor. For instance, my biggest obstacle was time management, while my biggest success was balancing sports with academics. I love teaching math and want to share my love of it with my students by helping understand it in a way that works for them. As a mentor, I hope to share with my students that it is okay to struggle sometimes. I look forward to partnering alongside them in the struggle and find strategies to help them become successful.
