About Me
Hello! My name is Katie Whitaker. By day, I teach high school and college-level chemistry at the Advanced Learning Academy downtown. I love drinking hot tea (regardless of the weather), reading books about interesting math ideas, and watching cheesy Hallmark movies. I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Trinity University – a BS in Chemistry and Neuroscience (2013) and a Master of Arts in Teaching (2014). I love helping students understand and master the science that brings me so much joy.
When looking back on my educational journey, I have learned many things that have helped me gain better insight into myself as a learner and mentor today. For instance, my biggest struggle as a student was managing my stress while my biggest strength was time management. I de-stress by drinking tea and catching up with people I love and trust. I understand students who stress, over-commit, and struggle to think they’re enough. As a mentor, I want to encourage all students to take on manageable amounts of work and feel confident and comfortable with what they produce.
