About Me
Hello! My name is Nina Medrano, and I am a mentor for Beyond Education. I am a native of San Antonio and graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word where I tutored English and writing for almost three years. When I am not reading or writing, you can find me enjoying horseback riding, playing with my dog, and watching the Spurs play basketball. I have found tutoring over the last few years to be so rewarding and cannot wait to help more students achieve their goals.
When looking back on my educational journey, I have learned many things that have helped me gain better insight into myself as a learner and mentor. For instance, my biggest struggle as a student was dealing with slow-paced classroom environments, while my biggest strength was being a leader in times of distress. If I had to pass on a tip to the students I work with, it would be “struggling is strengthening.” I believe a strength-based approach when mentoring students can positively enhance their development not only as students, but as learners of life. My goal as a mentor is to set the stepping stool for the youth to be lifelong learners beyond a classroom or work environment.
