We are now in the place where most of our classes are back in the swing of things. Zoom has been the go-to source of communication between teachers and students. We thought it would be helpful to gather just a few tips and features that exist in Zoom so you can easily rock your online courses!

some tricks

zoom from outer space

When every room in your house is being used as an office for different family members, you may end up with the room that is not as aesthetically pleasing. That is not a problem for this feature of Zoom. You can pick from a variety of virtual backgrounds or upload your own background that will be projected behind you. Check out how to do it here. You can access this fun feature by clicking on the up arrow icon next to Stop Video in the bottom left icon of your Zoom room window. From here, select Choose Virtual Background, where there are a few preloaded Zoom options to choose from. click on the plus sign to upload a photo (or video!) of your own.

Hot Keys and Keyboard Shortcuts

If you are one of those online gamers who knows their way around a keyboard, then you might like all of the fast and easy shortcuts that Zoom has. Check out this article for the list.

record your meeting

If one of your teachers is giving a lecture and you cant get all the notes down, try recording your meeting. With this feature you can refer back to the class incase you miss anything! Check out a tutorial here.

Recording Playback w/ Audio, Screenshare, & Transcription

This feature is helpful if you don’t want to have to register to the lecture. Zoom will automatically create a transcript of your meeting. HOW HELPFUL IS THAT!! This option automatically transcribes the audio of a meeting or webinar that you record to the cloud. Check out the tutorial here.

some tips

limit your NOISEs

The microphones on webcam programs are HIGHLY sensitive. Make sure to put yours on mute when you aren’t talking, otherwise everyone will hear your papers rustling, your cat meowing, or your sniffly nose. It can be really distracting so find a quiet place! To do it, go to Settings > Audio > Mute microphone when joining a meeting, and then Settings > Video > Turn off my video when joining a meeting

Mute and unmute with the space bar
fix your LIGHT

If you have a window or light source behind your head, most likely no one will be able to see your face. The webcam will focus on that light versus focusing on your face. Instead, try facing the window or light source so it will be illuminating your face.
